
Rakott Krumpli is a traditional Hungarian layered potato casserole made with potatoes, hard-boiled eggs, Hungarian sausage, and sour cream. The top is baked until beautifully golden and crispy.
🥔 Ingredients — 6 servings
- 1 kg potatoes
- 6 eggs
- 250–300 g Hungarian sausage (kolbász), sliced
- 400 g sour cream
- 100–150 g grated cheese, optional
- 50 g butter
- 1 small onion, optional
- Salt
- Black pepper
- 1 teaspoon sweet Hungarian paprika, optional
👨🍳 Method
- Cook the potatoes
Boil the potatoes with their skins until just tender. Let them cool, peel them, and slice into rounds. - Cook the eggs
Hard-boil the eggs for about 9–10 minutes. Cool, peel, and slice. - Prepare the sausage
Slice the Hungarian sausage into thin rounds. You can lightly fry it for a few minutes to release its flavor. - Prepare the baking dish
Butter a large ovenproof dish. - Layer the ingredients
Arrange:- A layer of sliced potatoes
- Salt and pepper
- Sliced eggs
- Sausage
- A layer of sour cream
- Finish the top
Spread a generous layer of sour cream over the top. Add grated cheese if desired and dot with a little butter. - Bake
Bake at 200°C (400°F) for about 35–45 minutes, until the top is golden brown and bubbling. - Rest and serve
Let it rest for 10–15 minutes before cutting.
